Recklinghausen is a very old town with a history about 1.000 years. The town has got about 123.000 inhabitants and is making the connection between the Muenster - country and the ruhr - district. But even coal mining does play a roll in Recklinghausen still today. Recklinghausen also always stood for cultural interests. The Ruhrfestspiele of Recklinghausen (Festivals of the Ruhr) were founded after the Second World war. Coal miners distributed coals to heat the theater.
